Yellow fever vaccination and other travel immunisations

Yellow fever, also known as black vomit, is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitos in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and South America. The symptoms (fever, vomiting and/or pain) go away after a couple of days. In extreme cases yellow fever can lead to life-threatening liver damage, jaundice or blood clotting disorders. WHO estimates that 200.000 people are annually infected with yellow fever, 15% of these cases are lethal. 90% of these infections occur in Africa.

The vaccination should not be given to infants under the age of nine months. Adults over 6o run a higher risk of severe side effects and should undergo a medical examination beforehand.

With pregnant women the risk-benefit-ratio needs to be taken into consideration.

If you suffer from thymus disorders, you should avoid the yellow fever vaccination.

Some health insurance companies reimburse part of the costs, but you need an application form which I can give you on the spot. If you need this form, please let me know using the form below.
